SEND Support

Specialist, personalised support for children with SEND — delivered with care, patience and understanding

At Tilly’s Tutoring, we provide specialist support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with EHCPs, neurodivergent learners, and children with more complex emotional or learning needs.

We understand that for many SEND learners, progress isn’t only about academics — it’s about feeling safe, understood, and confident enough to learn.

That’s why our approach is:

  • patient
  • calm and consistent
  • understanding and responsive
  • relationship-led
  • focused on building trust and confidence first

Support is always adapted to meet each child’s individual needs so learning becomes accessible, meaningful and achievable.

    Who We Support

Our SEND support may be helpful for children who:

    ✅ have an EHCP
    ✅ are awaiting diagnosis
✅ struggle to cope in school environments
    ✅ experience anxiety around learning
✅ have learning gaps or uneven progress
✅ have low confidence or self-esteem
✅ have complex needs requiring a tailored approach
✅ need flexible education routes such as home education

    A Safe Space to Learn

Many children with SEND have experienced school-related anxiety, overwhelm, low confidence or repeated setbacks. Our first priority is always to create a learning environment where children feel:

    • safe

    • respected

    • not judged

    • supported at their own pace

    • understood as an individual

We take the pressure away and build learning back up step-by-step — helping children feel capable again.

    Tailored support for every learner

No two children learn the same way

All tutoring is tailored to the individual learner, recognising that every child’s needs, strengths and challenges are unique.

    We adapt sessions to suit:

    • learning preferences and pace

    • strengths and interests

    • communication style

    • emotional needs and regulation

    • attention, memory, and processing needs

    • confidence levels and motivation

    This ensures learning is:
    ✅ meaningful
    ✅ accessible
    ✅ effective
    ✅ confidence-building

    Neurodivergent Learners

We have experience supporting children who are neurodivergent, including learners with:

    • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC / ASD)

    • ADHD / ADD

    • Dyslexia

    • Dyspraxia

    • Dyscalculia

    • sensory processing differences

    • speech, language and communication needs

    • social communication difficulties

We understand that neurodivergence is not “one-size-fits-all”. Our tutors focus on supporting the child in a respectful, strengths-based way.

✅ Emotional Regulation & Behaviour Support

For some children, behaviours are a form of communication. We work with families to support children who may experience:

    • school refusal
    • anxiety
    • meltdowns or shutdowns
    • demand avoidance / high stress responses
    • emotional dysregulation
    • low self-esteem
    • difficulty managing change or transitions

    We can support with:

    • calm predictable routines
    • building emotional safety in learning
    • reward and motivation strategies that are SEND-informed
    • gentle strategies to reduce overwhelm
    • behaviour support plans and strategies that work at home

We can also guide families with practical tools for:

    • improving learning routines
    • reducing conflict around schoolwork/homework
    • managing attention and engagement

✅EHCP Support (Education, Health and Care Plans)

    Supporting families through every stage

EHCP processes can feel overwhelming, and many families are unsure where to start. We offer supportive guidance to help families feel confident, prepared, and heard.

    We can support with:

✅ EHCP Writing and Draft Support

    • writing or reviewing EHCP drafts

    • helping you check wording and clarity

    • ensuring sections reflect actual needs

    • identifying missing provision or vague language

    • supporting you to request specific and measurable targets

    • helping with parental contributions and supporting documents

    ✅ EHCP Annual Review Support

    • advice on what to prepare

    • helping you summarise progress and needs

    • updating outcomes and provision

    • organising evidence and reports

    • helping you write professional feedback for the review meeting

✅ Supporting Evidence for EHCP Requests

If you’re applying for an EHCP or appealing a decision, we can help families present clear, structured information including learning needs and impact.

    ✅Diagnostic Support & Report Writing

Supporting families seeking assessments and diagnoses

Many families suspect their child has underlying needs, but don’t yet have a diagnosis or formal support.

    We can support with:

✅ written summaries of learning needs
✅ observation-based notes on learning, behaviour and engagement
✅ structured reports describing barriers to learning
✅ evidence to support diagnostic pathways (e.g. ASD / ADHD referrals)
✅ detailed feedback for professionals and schools

These reports can help families articulate needs clearly and ensure professionals understand how those needs affect learning day-to-day.

(Please note: we do not diagnose medical conditions, but we can support families with evidence and learning-based reporting.)

    Flexible Delivery Options

    SEND support is available:

    ✅ online
    ✅ in the student’s home
    ✅ in the tutor’s home
✅ in our Grimsby town centre office at The Hive

Many SEND learners benefit from familiar and calm environments, so we offer flexible options based on what works best.

    Our SEND Approach

    Patient. Consistent. Trust-led.

SEND learners often need the adult supporting them to be:

    • calm

    • predictable

    • kind

    • patient

    • emotionally safe

    Our tutors focus on:

    • building rapport and trust

    • reducing learning stress and pressure

    • helping children rebuild confidence in learning
